Smart Agriculture and Agroforestry

A perfect agroforestry system integrating trees into farming has been established. The model involves life fencing, a woodlot and growing trees along contours. Fruit orchards have also been set up with other open places set aside for crop and vegetable farming. Crops include maize, beans, coffee, sweet potatoes, arrowroots, cow peas, cassava, sugarcane and yams while fruits include citrus, dragon fruits, passion, pomegranates, apple, grapes, banana, mangoes, avocado, pawpaw, fruit guava and macadamia. Vertical gardens have been put in place to train farmers on maximization of limited space and conservation of water. to control soil erosion gabions have been put up and terraces have been dug along contours where calliandra, brachiaria and fetiva grass have been planted to hold the soil firm alongside other benefits after harvesting. For soil fertilization, we use organic fertilizers such as farm yard manure and compost manure. We have water harvesting and storage tanks for water conservation too. Downstream, we have developed a riparian section for water buffering and wetland management.
