Trees for Kenya held it first farmers field day at its Karurumo Farmers Field School.
Trees for Kenya Farmers Field School is located in Karurumo along the Karurumo-Kyeni road. We held our first field day and launch on June 26, 2025, hosting 350 farmers from Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Kirinyaga counties. Government representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and KALRO, as well as students from local secondary schools, also attended. We showcased various integrated farming systems, including beekeeping, fish farming, nursery management, greenhouse farming, coffee and fruit orchards, livestock husbandry, composting, value addition, and conservation technologies.
Farmers learned practical skills in seed selection, post-harvest handling, greenhouse management, pest control, and soil and water conservation. Interactive sessions encouraged experience sharing and collective problem-solving. The program emphasized environmental stewardship, productivity improvement, and food security. Experts highlighted agriculture’s role in addressing unemployment and extension challenges. The event concluded successfully with recommendations to increase the frequency of field days, allowing more farmers to benefit from experiential learning.
